Back in 2022, the Cambridge Police Department started a full overhaul of its policies, procedures, rules, and regulations with a strong focus on procedural justice. They decided to commit several years toward earning accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This accreditation is known as the top standard in law enforcement and fits right in with the department’s goal of fair policing.
CALEA mainly aims to boost how public safety services are delivered. Their goals include better crime prevention, ensuring hiring practices are fair and unbiased, and improving cooperation between agencies – all to help build trust within the community and among staff.
As part of this process, Cambridge Police welcomes public feedback directly to CALEA. The point of this public portal is to collect comments about how well the agency meets CALEA standards, their involvement with the community they serve, how they provide public safety services, and their overall suitability for accreditation. You can share compliments or concerns. The whole idea behind accreditation is to give the agency useful info that helps them keep getting better and push toward professional excellence.
IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that CALEA isn’t an investigative group so this portal isn’t meant for reporting investigations. Also, you won’t get any detailed replies other than a simple acknowledgment; still, your input will be looked at carefully based on how it relates to meeting standards and what CALEA® Accreditation stands for.
