Authorities confirm that one person died in a fire that broke out in Cambridge on Monday.

The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office sent investigators to 133 Andrew Ham Road at 5:10 p. m., said Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Fire crews from Cambridge, Sangerville, and Harmony had to deal with cold temperatures and slippery roads while putting out the blaze, Moss added.

“During initial fire suppression efforts, fire crews located a deceased individual inside the home. The victim is believed to be (the) homeowner, 75-year-old Stuart Howe,” Moss said. “The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will perform an autopsy and confirm positive identification.”

Officials are still trying to figure out what started the fire.
