A report from the Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster Board, an outside group, has urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves to speed up efforts to boost growth in what’s called the “high-tech corridor” by fast-tracking infrastructure and housing development.
This board includes 46 organisations like universities, publicly traded companies, and big global investors such as Astra Zeneca, GSK, Airbus, the Ellison Institute of Technology, Aveva, Bidwells, Leonardo, Silverstone and Darktrace.
The report says starting construction during this five-year Parliament would give investors the confidence they need.
Companies are concerned it might take about 18 months just to get the Development Consent Order (DCO) approved.
They’re asking the government to speed up the review and decision process and set clear deadlines so building can begin sooner rather than later.
Earlier statements from the Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster Board said this area could add billions of pounds to the economy.
